Clearly one of the bright spots of the big data age. Being able to solve problems by mining public data is fantastic. No amount of benefits outweigh the danger inherent in digging through people’s search terms. I’m sure Google founders mean it when they say don’t be evil, but their definition of evil and mine might differ. You just can’t rely on corporations to do the right thing. We need federal laws to define how and when data can be collected and used.
