This doctor makes a great point. More patients and more doctors need to discuss the costs associated with treatment plans. Patients can miss out on alternative treatments with lower costs when they don’t discuss cost up front.
The healthcare industry has successfully changed the national conversation from how much healthcare should and does cost to a political arguement over who should pay for it. Beyond improving care this is an opportunity to shift the conversation back to costs and how to provide affordable high quality care.
This is also a great business opportunity if you’re willing to be targeted by healthcare industry hitmen. Doctors need an app to present a menu of treatment options to patients. We all hear about how doctors have too little time with patients. Maximize their time for medical issues. Let the app provide costs and info for the patient to consider on their own time. Then have a follow up consultation with the doc to assist in decision making.
