G.M.O.-Free Food is about consumer choice not about the science of safety.
It’s generally safe to eat dirt, but the staff here usually refuses when I offer it. Thats consumer choice.
Consumers reject Franken food because there is just too much unnatural stuff going into it, whether its the chemicals used in production, the antibiotics left over, or actual genetic modification.
Just because we can make corn more drought resistant doesnt mean we should. Just because you can make a tomato thats ships across the country doesnt mean we shoild have to eat it.
GMO free food is about rejection of Big Ag and the corporatization of our food supply. Big Ag has been poisoning us with corn syrup, sugar, fat and tons of other chemicals for too long. We need to get back to healthier, more natural, mostly plant based diets. Lower calorie options or gluten free bullshit are not going to help America get healthy again. Food with fewer ingredients and less production necessary are whats good for society.
As for the rest of the world, food science improvements and increased production don’t end hunger. The insane advances in our food production capacity in the last 30 years have done nothing to end hunger. We can’t even end it in our own country. More food made by tweaking nature rapidly is not the answer.
