This 2 year old piece is NobodyisFlyingthePlane writ large. Its not just whats wrong with politics society and culture, it’s ‘everything is wrong’. Roy Scranton, the author, says we have to accept that the whole damn world is doomed and nothing can get better until we see that.
It’s thought provoking in a way that few other doomsayers are. It reminds me of Ishmael by Daniel Quinn, though I wouldn’t call him that.
I think Quinn got at the real issue more accurately, but Scranton’s piece is more prosaic and perfectly targeted to the children of now.
I’d love to talk to Scranton about more practical ideas of what could be done. If he can see the picture that clearly he’s got to have some damn fine ideas beyond just accepting our fate.
