Solving all the wrong problems is exactly what we’re doing. The tech industry is so focused on the value of companies that do relatively little and relatively little value to the world.
Facebook is a time suck which causes depression, Uber and Lyft help when taxis aren’t prevalent, but they are talked about and valued as if they were solving huge problems for the world. Same with Airbnb, little evidence that they are doing something meaningful for the world. Yet we talk about them as if they are the most important businesses in the world.
We seem very afraid of talking about the problems that really are in need of solving; climate change, economic deprivation, growing inequality, fanaticism, fundamentalism to name a few.
